I learnt to play one of my favourite songs this evening and attempted to record a video of it...it's not perfect but see what you think:

Earlier this evening Mr. Ghost (Joe Bunn) and myself appeared on InspirationFM Northampton's 'Movie and Local Music show'.

We performed Joe's latest festive song 'Hungover on Christmas' live in the studio. MrGhost on lead vocal, me on xylophone, and the 2 presenters chanting along with various 'la's and 'ho ho ho's as instructed.
Following this an irreverent interview ensued in which we talked favourite christmas songs and attempted the Childrens BBC websites yuletide quiz!

Christmas is here again!!! Joy to the world and all that...

...anyway. BFW Recordings have put together an alternative christmas compilation album featuring a number of the labels artists and friends.

I have contributed to two of the songs of this record. As The Silent Committee I perform the song 'Snowfall' (video posted in the previous blog). Also I provide the instrumentation and backing vocals to Mr. Ghost' song 'The Contortionists Christmas'.

Enki have a gig coming up (our 1st in over 3 months), next Thursday (18/11/2010) at The Labour Club in Northampton. It's a fundraiser evening for next years Bardic Picnic event. It will be a busy evening of entertainment featuring live performances from us, Jim Tom Say?, The Storyteller, & Celtic Rasta - there'll also be poetry, dancers and a spoken word open mic stage upstairs.

The Drone Orchestra

This evening I performed with the Drone Orchestra in Northampton. The group consisted of 6 members this time round, all of us swapping between various string, keyboard and percussive instruments. The 4 hour improvised performace was recorded and hopefully we'll have some of it online soon (no guarantees though, the recordings not in my hands)

Charlotte's Theme (Unfinished soundtrack demo) by The Silent Committee

A bit of an old track thats been hanging around for a while. It's an unfinished demo for a song that was intended for a short-film soundtrack. The film script was abandoned before it really got anywhere.

This was the repeating melody line that followed one of the central characters, I had planned out a few variations but this was the most complete version.

Been working on a special Halloween song

Recently finished putting the final touches to another new song. This one is intended for release on a free to download compilation album being compiled by Schattenspiel. Their project is based around the subject of the 7 Deadly Sins and is being released is 7 parts. 'Ira' has just been released, and my track should appear on the 'Sloth' compilation.

This is the latest mix of the song, although it may alter slightly by the time the album is released.

Tomorrow night I'll be performing a set as The Silent Committee at the Missing Peace: Piece 6 charity night at the Labour Club in Northampton. It's a charity evening, this month raising money for the Childrens Ward at Northampton General Hospital.

Other goings on...

The new TSC song will be uploaded to the facebook page tomorrow.

A new collaboartive track has been finished, mixed and mastered and we are planning an ep that I'm not allowed to talk about just yet. Hopefully the first track will be online very soon...I suspect a new myspace page.

Also I'm working on a new production job, lending performances on several instruments to a new album. Quite excited for this.

Peacefully busy, and just as uni starts up again too!

Been doing a bit of recording tonight as planned, made a pretty good start on demoing the organ song (currently called 'Time Alone'). Got the harmonium and vocal down on it, but I think I can get the organ to sound better...just need a better mic, and maybe position it slightly differently (I'm still learning this stuff!). But for a demo for myself to work with it'll do, the lyrics aren't even definite yet...

I'm writing something new today and aim to record some harmonium and vocals this evening...

but I have taken a little break to attend to this interesting instrument...a guitar-zither dated 1894.
Giving repairing it another go. May end up selling it on soon though: if anyone knows anything about these instruments let us know, I'd be interested in finding out more as the interent's been a pretty useless resource so far.

I've been clearing out a cupboard at my parents house today and amongst a collection of old 4-track demo cassettes, mini-discs and other assorted oddities I found this dictaphone recording.
